The Quiet Game - Meditation for Kids
We decided to update this favorite into a more effective, ‘focused activity’ 😅
We’d really like to call it Meditation for Kids but many people associate meditation with being in a seated, legs crossed, eyes closed, stillness🧘🏽♀️. None of which are easy to do for children. But the definition of meditation is focusing the mind on a particular object, thought or ACTIVITY.
The goal is to focus their thoughts onto one thing by channeling their little imaginations. You can play anywhere!
As you sit where you are, ask them to tell you what they hear. Have them close their eyes, if they will.
Tell them to listen closely.
Hear the birds talking, the cars, the quietness, the wind blowing, a fan, dogs barking…..
Name a few for them & then ask them what they hear.
‘You hear an airplane? I wonder where they’re going? I’d go to the beach. Hot sun, white sand, searching for seashells….’
Try to keep their focus for at least 17 seconds. Guide them into the FEELING of quieting their mind, focusing on what’s around them & enjoying it.
Let them enjoy their ride 🤍
