Let Them
Before kids, I needed everything in its place - clean, spotless, just how I liked it (OCD? Yeah, probably). I’d be wiping counters while people were still eating, and I couldn’t sleep unless the whole house was back in order.
But then I had kids… and they taught me how to let go and just let them.
Let them eat on the couch or on the floor while giggling.
Let them turn the living room into a raging dance party.
Let their magnetic tile builds or legos lay where they are.
Let them totally rearrange the blankets, pillows and cushions to play their imaginary game.
Let them run barefoot outside, dig in the dirt, or play in the rain.
Let them make interesting ‘recipe’ concoctions in the kitchen.
Let them explore all kinds of music, sports, and wild interests.
Let them help clean, fold clothes and vacuum without critiquing them.
Let them have space to figure things out without rushing them.
Let them mess up, try again, and keep trying until they get it. Just be close when they need a snuggle, a listening ear, or a little guidance.
But really, just let them be small, growing, loud, quiet, creative, unsure - whatever stage they’re in. Let them become who they are, at their own pace, in their own way.
